What Happens After You Pass Your Driving Test?

Great work! You’ve passed your driving test, now what happens? It is completely natural to find driving independently daunting. You can never be fully prepared for every situation that you may come across, but the more you drive the easier it will become.

How long does it take to get your license?

How quickly you pass really depends on whether you have had any previous driving experience and how quickly you are able to pick things up. The beneficial thing about completing an intensive driving course is that you are learning day-to-day and not completing a lesson once a week or so. This means whatever you have learnt will be fresh in your mind and therefore easier to remember and implement when taking your test.

The average time that it will take from passing your driving test to receiving your full licence is usually around 3 weeks once you have applied. When you have passed your test you will be legally allowed to drive independently, however, make sure that you update your car insurance to cover you as a full UK licence holder and not provisional.

Can you drive alone?

Yes, once you have passed your driving test you are now legally allowed to drive independently. However, it may be a good idea to place some green pass-plates on your car once you start driving – this will warn other drivers that you are new to the roads and may need a little extra time when making decisions.
