What Do I Need to Take My Theory Test?

Imagine getting all the way to your theory test, with bundles of revision notes whirring around in your head, to be turned away because you’ve forgotten an essential piece of paperwork.

When it comes to taking your theory test, forgetting some things could mean your test is cancelled without a refund. It’s happened before and it could happen to you. To help you avoid such a scenario, we’ve compiled a list of the essential things you need to take to your theory test.

What to take to your test

  • Face covering: Unless you are exempt, you will need to wear a face covering inside the theory test centre.
  • Driving licence: It’s best to take your photocard driving licence with you, however the test centre will also accept your paper driving licence as long as you also bring another form of acceptable ID, such as a passport.

That’s it! There are only a couple of things you need to remember to take with you, but it is important that you remember them. For more information there is a dedicated webpage on the GOV.uk site.

There are also a number of things you aren’t allowed to take into the test room, to prevent cheating. Generally speaking, these are personal belongings which include:

  • Bags
  • Mobile phones
  • Earphones
  • Watches
  • Notes

If you do have any of these personal items with you, you should declare them and hand them over for safekeeping until you’ve finished the test.

So, hopefully you now know exactly what you need to take to your theory test, and what you should leave at home. If you have any more questions about your theory test, our blog covers everything including how to revise.
